Death – An Exhibition about Life
The renovation of Liljevalchs’ pink building continue throughout the summer. This notwithstanding, there will still be art: Liljevalchs is financing and participating in the Death - An Exhibition about Life displayed in Galärvarvsparken on Djurgården from 4 June to 4 September.
Can the memory of our dead be integrated into our public spaces? Can the cemetery be more attractive and inspiring – a place for leisure and recreation? Nine artists have created works reflecting on these issues. How do the artists choose to design their own burial site, the memory of themselves or of someone else?
With the focus on visual art, the presentation also includes architecture, landscape architecture and performance art. The exhibition is an artist-driven project initiated by artists Stefan Karlsson and Lars Bergström, architect Tomas Lundberg and actor Cia Runesson. The exhibition will be accompanied by a richly-illustrated catalogue.
The participating artists are: Leif Elggren, Stockholm; Björn Perborg, Göteborg; Sonja Nilsson, Berlin; Gunilla Bandolin, Stockholm; Veronica Brovall, Berlin; Mandana Moghaddam, Göteborg; Berit Lindfeldt, Göteborg; Ulrik Samuelson, Stockholm; and Anna Koch, Stockholm.
The working group comprises: Mårten Castenfors, Director, Liljevalchs; Malin Ros Tägtström, Stockholm Art/Liljevalchs; Stefan Karlsson, project manager, curator and artist; Lars Bergström, curator and artist; Tomas Lundberg, curator and architect; Cia Runesson, curator and actor; Petter Hauffman, curator and landscape architect; Pia Kristoffersson, catalogue editor; and Lars Fuhre, graphic designer.
