The Spring Salon 2017
Liljevalchs’ famous Spring Salon marks the opening of each new artistic year, presenting an authentic “smorgasbord” of art created by professionals and amateurs, old and young, representing high and low, paintings, embroidery, sculptures.
The Spring Salon is an eagerly-awaited juried exhibition. To be selected or not to be selected, that is the question for both well-established and non-established artistic practitioners. The Spring Salon is also a firm favourite of our visitors. In 2015, the Spring Salon attracted more than 90,000 visitors, and in 2016 more than 83,000 visitors came, in spite of a new and less spatious location.
The renovation and expansion of Liljevalchs building in Djurgården started in early spring 2016. Designed by Gert Wingårdh, the new building will be linked with Carl Bergsten’s pink building in late autumn 2017.
As the renovation is not finished, the relocating of the Spring Salon to the city centre will continue. The first time we occupied the two top floors of Stockholm’s new city space, Urban Escape. We will remain in this new block, but this time on ground-level. The entrance is located at Brunkebergstorg, Malmskillnadsgatan 32.
The 2017 Spring Salon jury comprises two well known visual artists: Ernst Billgren and Charlotte Gyllenhammar. The musical artist and entertainer Magnus Uggla makes the trio complete. The jury is chaired by Mårten Castenfors, Director of Liljevalchs.
The Spring Salon in the city centre, produced in collaboration with AMF Fastigheter, runs from 11 January to 5 March.
